Our Process

A structured path from instructions to hearing.

From initial instructions through to hearing preparation, LSNZ provides independent criminal defence investigation support throughout New Zealand.

Our process gives counsel a structured way to review the case, test prosecution evidence, complete targeted enquiries, and obtain the factual information needed to support effective defence preparation.

01

Receive Instructions

We begin by receiving instructions from counsel and confirming the scope of investigative support required, including the charge, prosecution theory, key issues in dispute, Legal Aid requirements, urgency, and priority lines of enquiry.

02

Case Review

We conduct a comprehensive review of the available case material, including Police disclosure, statements, exhibits, forensic material, CCTV, phone data, timelines, and witness accounts, to identify gaps, inconsistencies, missed enquiries, and issues requiring independent investigation.

03

Defence Enquiries

We carry out targeted enquiries to clarify the defence position and test matters not fully explored during the Police investigation. Where instructed by counsel, this may include accused interviews, witness enquiries, alibi checks, and background enquiries.

04

Evidence Testing

We examine evidence relied on by the prosecution to assess its reliability, context, and significance, including witness and complainant accounts, photographs, recordings, text messages, electronic surveillance material, digital data, exhibits, timelines, movements, locations, and scene-related evidence where relevant.

05

Legal Support

We provide clear factual reporting and evidential material to assist lawyers with informed decision-making, advice, negotiations, and hearing preparation, with further support available for defended hearings, jury trials, sentencing, appeals, and related enquiries.
